Beaumont Health is a sponsor of the weekly Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market this year. Michigan’s largest health care system will host health promotions at this popular and fun outdoor market each month through October.
“Our support of this wonderful farmers market is another part of our commitment to building healthier communities here in Farmington-Farmington Hills through a variety of activities, initiatives and events,” said Constance O’Malley, president, Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills. “This is an important part of our efforts to step outside our hospital to bring health care resources to local residents. We want to partner with people to help them build healthier lives.”
Beaumont’s support of the Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market brings residents healthy food options, local produce and artisanal products along with opportunities to gauge their personal health through screenings and related activities that promote healthier lifestyles. Beaumont will also provide health education.

The Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market runs every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. until November 5 in downtown Farmington on Grand River Ave.
At the market days listed below, Beaumont will offer blood pressure and stroke screenings, including counseling, referral, support, encouragement and follow-up. Other health-related services during the 2016 season at the Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market include:

May 28 – Summer safety information: proper helmet use, bike safety, hydration, dealing with temperature changes, safe places to walk, community resources, identifying and dealing with poisonous plants, treating bee stings and first-aid handout.
June 11 ‘Fit as a Fiddle’ health fair – Nutrition: healthy eating, snacking and eating out; healthy weight loss; quick and inexpensive family meals on a budget; and referrals and counseling. Memory screening: counseling and referral, tips on improving memory.
July 30 – Exercise information
Aug. 20 – Children and teens interactive booth: encouraging exercise, exercise pyramids, information on after-school programs and joining sports teams
Sept. 10 – Ask a physician table
Oct. 1 – Stress management: mini exercises, informational handouts and questionnaires
Oct. 22 – Senior safety and balance issues: informational handouts and referrals
