Tanner Friedman Co-Founder Named to Syracuse Radio Station Hall of Fame

Matt Friedman has been added to the Hall of Fame at the university's radio station.

Farmington Hills-based co-founder, Matt Friedman, has been added to the Hall of Fame at legendary radio station WJPZ-FM on the campus of Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY.

WJPZ is the student-run radio station at Syracuse, which signed on the air in 1974 and has been listed as the highest rated student radio station in the country. The WJPZ Radio Hall of Fame honors the station’s alumni who have most positively impacted the station as students and alumni and who have built exceptional careers in broadcasting and communications.

Friedman, a West Bloomfield resident, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in a March ceremony on the Syracuse University campus.

“The alumni of WJPZ agree that Matt Friedman is among the exceptional few who have stood out from the thousands who have worked at the station,” said Jeff Wade, President of the WJPZ Alumni Association and Program/News Director of WGAN Radio in Portland, Maine. “Matt ran a news department of 45 at WJPZ in the early ‘90s, has now built a career as a communications leader, and continues to mentor young alumni while promoting the station and alumni throughout the industry.”

At WJPZ, Friedman worked as a news anchor and reporter, sports anchor, news producer, Assistant News Director, News Director and chaired the station’s Board of Directors.  He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse University in 1994.

As a professional, Friedman worked on-the-air and behind-the-scenes at CBS-owned WWJ Radio in Detroit and as the producer of top-rated newscasts at major market television stations WSB-TV in Atlanta, WCPX-TV (now WKMG-TV) in Orlando and WDIV-TV in Detroit.  Prior to co-founding Tanner Friedman in 2007, Friedman was an equity partner in what was a major Michigan-based public relations firm.
