The Olive Grove to Close in Downtown Farmington Feb. 28

The store will offer specials on oils and balsamics before closing its doors.

Today on Facebook, Farmington business owners Bill and Sharon Randall delivered some bad news:

" is sad to announce that we are CLOSING!! The store will permanently close on Feb. 28th."

Reached by phone, owner Bill Randall said that after closing, the store will not continue selling its products at the Old Winery Farmers Market on Saturdays, or via the company's website.

Randall declined to give a reason for the store's closing. Just this month, the couple added whole olives, stuffed olives, olive spreads and tapenade to their line-up, which also includes olive oil-based soaps, lotions and creams.

Nearly a year ago, from a large storefront in the Village Mall at Grand River and Farmington Rd. to smaller digs in the Downtown Farmington Center, primarily to increase parking and foot traffic.

At the time, Sharon Randall said support from the Farmington community is the most important part of their business.

“If we don’t have the community support we can’t survive and we’ll go away,” she said. “The majority of new jobs are from small businesses starting. So it’s a huge industry, but it needs the support of the community to survive.”

In its final weeks, The Olive Grove will offer $2 off large bottles and $1 off small bottles of extra virgin oils and balsamic vingears. For more information, call the store, 248-476-4460, or visit their website, theolivegrovemi.com.
