The Vines Wins Downtown Farmington Window Decorating Contest

The Farmington Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has announced the winners of its "Winter Wonderland Windows" contest for downtown business owners. 

The Vines Flower & Garden Shop came out on top, winning an ad with a value of $500, in the Main Street Messenger, a newsletter mailed to 22,000 households in the Farmington/Farmington Hills area. A DDA press release noted the judges felt the window did the best job with a small space, was thoughtful and well-balanced, best at evoking the holiday spirit.

“We were very excited to win first place. We decided to do something fun and whimsical this year," said owner Michele Hinds. 

Second place Salon Legato wins a one-year membership in the Greater Farmington Area Chamber of Commerce with a value of $285. Judges called the window “out of the box, exceptional creativity, well-executed.”

“We’re thrilled to win second place in the window contest. We never expected it. We love the holiday season and all the employees love to be involved,” said owner Diane Cassidy. 

Eye Spy Eye Care, in 3rd place, wins a business owner coffee hour, with refreshments, valued at $100. Judges commented that this window best acknowledged the entire holiday spectrum, and would appeal to everyone who walks by.

Honorable mentions included John Cowley & Sons for its historic village atmosphere; Sarian Jewelry Gallery, for its unusual lighted decorations; and Focal Point Studio, for elegance and beauty.

Judges were Mary Engelman, Greater Farmington Area Chamber of Commerce; Val Clark, formerly of WXYZ-TV; and Jack Lochrie, Downtown Development Authority/Main Street Promotions Committee member.
