Warnerettes Parasol Drill Team Seeks New Members

The group, which performs in the Downtown Farmington Founders Festival parade, meets April 30.

Farmington’s first – and only – parasol drill team is ready to recruit new members and start practicing for this year’s Downtown Farmington Founders Festival Parade, scheduled for Saturday, July 21.

The Warnerettes mark their fourth year of participating in the parade and representing Governor Fred M. Warner’s commitment to helping women gain the right to vote in the early 1900’s. Warner was a Farmington resident, and his home now serves as a city-owned museum.

Warnerettes dress in Gibson Girl outfits, consisting of black skirt, white blouse, and straw hat, and practice simple parasol routines on the beautiful grounds of the . No special skills are required, and all women, from teens to more mature ladies, are welcome to be in the group.

The group's first meeting will be held at the Mansion on Monday, April 30, 7 p.m.-8 p.m. Bring a full-sized, black umbrella with a U-shaped handle, if possible.
