The kids had their Valentine's Day party today in class. This is the first time Lilah has ever been to one and she was incredibly excited to give her Valentines to her friends. The choice of Valentine from Lilah (that her and her mum made together) were these little papier mache hearts with wildflower seeds in them. You plant them in the ground and voila - beautiful flowers (and I think they come up in the shape of hearts.) I had the brilliant idea to tie instructions around them with twine so no small people might mistake them for snacks. Papier mache may not look scrumptious, but I've certainly seen various crackers that look worse (I'm looking at you, triscuits.) I told Lilah she would have to be patient and wait until the end of class to pass out her Valentines and she was after a small amount of protesting and telling me she was tired (which is her go-to move when she is upset.)
For snack today, I don't know what the kids had, but apparently it was the most amazing thing since George Washington Carver found all those uses for peanuts. Most every kid in class was going on about whatever it was and I'm still searching into the mystery because all I could get out of Lilah was "It was pretzels. I told Mrs. Fuller we're out of pretzel buns and we have to go to the store to get more." While true (Pretzel buns are the best), Lilah's story didn't do anything to help me solve the mystery of the amazing snack and how to obtain one for myself.
When we got home, we went through Lilah's Valentine bag and she got some candy (I allowed her to have one chocolate after lunch because I'm not a crazy person), some pencils, some stickers, some tattoos, and a really pretty hair clip along with several cards in fun shapes and sizes. When we got out of the car, Lilah said "Next time, I will go to class and give my friends more Valentines!" I apologized and told her Valentine's Day only comes once a year and that she'd appeciate that fact when she got a little older and had her first job in retail.

Now, the only other thing to do today is to continue Lilah and my tradition of the daddy/daughter dinner we have been having every year on this day. My wife and I have never really been Valentiners, but we liked the idea of starting a new tradition to go along side it so that is what we have done. Now I have to go scour my brain/the interwebs to figure out where to eat. No class next week, so I probably won't blog.
Until next time, don't eat the triscuits and watch your candy intake - it's gonna be a bumpy ride.
