Almost Forgot

Show and tell, books, and 30 year old 4 year olds.

I almost forgot to blog today because I was reading The Maltese Falcon.  I hope Lilah grows up with the same love and appreciation of books that I did.  That was actually one of the topics of dinner conversation last night when we were over at a friend's house.  Her son, who is a friend of mine from college, was not into reading as much as a kid because the books weren't around as much.  I, on the other hand, had English majors for parents so no chance of not loving literature.

Enough about me, though.  Lilah had an interesting day on the back of how late she stayed up last night for the family outing.  When I dropped her off, I told Mrs. Wilson that Lilah was a "little tired and cross" which was true.  I was thanked for the warning and, when I came to pick her up, was told she hadn't been too bad - just a little dreamy eyed and very ready to sleep.  In fact, she is still asleep as far as I know so that's quite a long nap for her.  I'm going to have to go wake her soon, though.

Lilah also had the show and tell bag for today which she was very excited about.  All weekend, she kept asking me where it was to keep tabs on it so it wouldn't somehow get lost before she had a chance to take Caroline, her doll, to school.  Mrs. Fuller told me that show and tell went very well and about the interesting conversation she had had with Lilah.  "What's that?" Mrs. Fuller had asked when Lilah took the box with Caroline in it out of the show and tell bag.  "A box." Lilah had replied, true to Alexander form (every Christmas, we go "it's a box!" at least once when referring to a present) and then Mrs. Fuller asked what was in the box.  Lilah said "A doll."  Eventually letting her teacher know the doll was named Caroline.  Finally, Mrs. Fuller asked "And how long have you had her?"  To which Lilah responded "Oh, about 30 years."
