Almost Spring Break

Talk about VIP night, Lilah's birthday, and Grannie Annie.

So break for Lilah has officially started and, because of this, I really won't have anything to talk about for the next week and a half.  The last school day was last night when they had their VIP night.  It was very hard to get Lilah to understand she would be going to school in the evening instead of in the morning, but eventually we were able to make it.  For VIP night, the kids put the artwork they had been doing throughout the month on display and had a VIP from their family come look at them.  For most of the kids, that was grandparents.  My mom, Lilah's Grannie Annie, came all the way from Chicago to see her art and so that was really nice.

My wife was also volunteering and she is who I got my information on the night from (hence the reason the blog is a day late) and she told me that the kids had a lot of fun with doing the washing machine dance, playing with wet and dry sand, 2 different colors of play dough (oh my!), scratch art, and story reading.  Also, apparently there is a hermit crab who Mrs. Fuller says is "crabby."  I've been in that class quite a few times and, for some reason, never once noticed the hermit crab.

I'm still somewhat worn out from the weekend.  We had Lilah's birthday party on Sunday and it was cool this year because the party was on her actual birthday.  My wife made a cake shaped like a mushroom and put fairies and butterflies on it, we had each kid who came (Lilah was allowed to invite a few friends from class, but not too many because our house isn't the biggest) wear fairy wings or a gnome hat.  The kids really didn't eat much, opting to play instead.  The dads, however (and it was almost all dads) had a good time as well which I'm sure they weren't expecting at a 4 year old's party.  Each kid did eat cake (of course), and we sent them each home with a birdhouse they decorated themselves, and dirt pudding.  All in all, this week has been a lot of fun, but I'm definitely looking forward to the little break because I'm not sure I have a whole lot of energy left.

Just a sidenote: even though she never reads this, I am super thankful for my mom and her willing to come to Detroit in between services in Chicago where she is going to school to be a pastor in the Lutheran church.  I am glad that, no matter how much effort or squeezing us between Palm Sunday and the weekend leading up to Easter it takes, she will always make time for her children and her children's children.
