Eating Before 2:30 p.m.: Three Recommendations for the Weekend

Faced with worry as to what you will do to fill the gaping wound in your weekend brunch schedules not that Club Bart's is gone, here are my top three recommendations for weekend brunching.

This week has been hard has it not?

I know that many of you look upon the weekend with great trepidation, and worry as to what you will do to fill the gaping wound in your brunch schedules now that Club Bart left.

But there are many a fine restaurants spiraling off of Nine Mile and Woodward. And good majority serve up some mighty delicious breakfast, lunch, and brunch menus.

To sooth your souls I would like to make my top three recommendations for eating before 2:30 p.m. on the weekend.

My favorite, The Emory: For those of you who follow me on Twitter or Facebook see my foursquare check ins and may think there is a good chance I in fact live there. I guess only Clyde the handsome bartender could really answer that.

The Emory has a classic menu with some savvy twist and a cherry atmosphere. On the weekends they offer their breakfast menu until 2 p.m. Of course it covers the basic: eggs, pancake/French toast, hash brown, and toast. But if you’re looking to spice up your first meal you can check their breakfast burrito, nachos, and, oh yes, a Bloody Mary Bar.

And there are always specials on the menu. My favorite to date is their Cinnamon Toast CRUNCH French toast; perfectly prepared French toast with cinnamon sugar and almonds on top.

All dishes are served up some of the sweetest hearts in the Ferndale parameters. An added bonus is that they have outdoor seating with a great view of the Rust Belt Market, people watching, and those who are, of course, envious of you.

The Fly Trap: My favorite place to get some "brinner" -- breakfast for dinner of course. The Fly Trap has it’s own claim to fame as it has appeared on the Food Network as one of metro Detroit great eat places. Don’t let the funky colors, kitschy salt and peppershakers, and home made hot sauces scare you from some fresh takes on tasty eats.

First of all, they make maybe the best milk shakes ever. Get the Dancing Travolta they are in fact that good.

The menu highlights vegetarian, exotic, or classics with wit. I tend to be the plain Jane ordering Eggs ala Boring, but let me tell you the house seasonings, and sauces puts some real peep in the stagnate attitude of any meal.

You know it’s Saturday or Sunday because there is a line out the door. But let me tell you, it is worth the wait. If you don’t think you can wait it out, hit it up during the week. You will thank me.

Omega’s: For those of you who don’t often venture far from the downtown stretch, I dare you to cross the train tracks to the corner of Nine Mile and Hilton to check out this little gem. Omega's cuts the glitz and glamour out of what is just a simple beautiful thing: Brunch.

Classic free standing diner, aged to perfection 1980’s artwork on the walls, and matching booths to give you that "this place has been here awhile" vibe. The menu provides you with all the things a growing boy or girl needs.

Served up by the lovely staff hot and fast, on classic diner style plates.

Affordable, greasy, and delicious. Not a thing not to like.

It’s going to take time for the pain of Bart’s departure to leave us, and we should all take the time to grieve. But, we still gotta eat so in the meantime try something new. Bart would want it like that.
