Ferndale from a Parent's Perspective

New Ferndale Patch blogger Sean Gauvreau aims to show Ferndale through the eyes of a parent.

My blogging journey has taken me from the advent of Livejournal through blogspots about workout routines, microblogging with twitter and my own personal blog, www.seangauvreau.com, where I write about whatever catches my interest enough to discuss it on any given day. Usually it's family, hockey, running, or my band (if you're using my tag cloud as a guide).

When I noticed that Terry (Parris Jr., Ferndale Patch editor,) was looking for people to contribute to Ferndale Patch I was intrigued. I realized that I could use this platform to offer the city of Ferndale a view of their community through the eyes of a parent. This idea came from a prior experience I had on the review site www.yelp.com. I made an effort, in some of my reviews, to note how child friendly each establishment was and received a lot of positive feedback. I even found myself gravitating to places that were highly rated as "child-friendly" by other reviewers. As many parents probably know, there is nothing worse than waiting 20 minutes for your food when you have a hungry 15-month-old with you. Or even worse, when there are no high chairs available (or room for one at the table!).

My main contribution to Ferndale Patch will be adding the perspective of a parent to the site. My wife, daughter and I like to participate in many of the fun activities happening in Ferndale, such as the summer festivals, store openings, music events and more! My blog will help to educate non-child rearing folk on the needs of families with children and also show people considering moving to Ferndale that this city is a fantastic place to raise kids.

I'm glad Terry has given me the opportunity to share my viewpoint with all of Ferndale and will do my best to be an active contributor to the site... when I'm not chasing my 20-month-old daughter around our back yard, that is!

'til next time...
