Lilah McSnuggles

An odd day, but in a good way. Hopefully with a Christmas ornament at the end of it.

Welcome to the magical place far away from "fiscal cliffs", "right to work voting", and people on the radio confusing "Irony" with "Sarcasm."  Sorry, that was not meant to be bitter, but I think we all need a break from that stuff from time to time.

Since my last blog was a bit on the lengthy side, (like an epic poem or The Wasteland) I thought I would keep this one a bit shorter to balance out the cosmic scales.

We got to school today in plenty of time and were participating in the morning bit where the parents stick around which is always nice.  The odd part was that Lilah was being really snuggly with me.  I asked her why and she responded "Because it's nice."  I obviously can't argue with that logic as I can barely get her to snuggle with me at home.  Shortly after that, though, Lilah decided she was done and wanted to stand and walk around.  I quietly told her that she didn't have to sit with me, but she wasn't allowed to walk around while the teacher was talking to the class.  Lilah responded by bursting into tears.  Another parent asked if Lilah had accidentally been kicked to which I replied "Only in her feelings."  This goes back to something she used to say when she was little and would get hurt playing with cousins or whomever.  When we'd ask where she was hurt, she would reply "In my feelings."

I took her out in the hall and calmed her down with yoga breaths and a drink of water from the fountain and then took her back to class.  Before I left, both Mrs. Fuller and Mrs. Wilson (her teachers) asked if Lilah was okay.

"Yeah," I replied, "that's just the way our life has always been.  If I say anything mildly disapproving, she burts into tears.  Not so much with my wife."

"Ah, daddy's girl."  Remarked Mrs. Fuller.  And I guess I can't argue with that.

When I got back to pick Lilah up, though, she greeted me with a running hug.  I must have looked like a deer in the headlights.  Usually she drags her feet and says she doesn't want to go home and tells me to go back to wherever I was, but not today.  The teachers both told me that Lilah had a very good day playing with marbles and possibly making a Christmas ornament, though we're still unsure if she did, so that remains to be found out next time.  I really hope she did because she and I had talked about how most of the old ornaments on the tree were made by daddy when he was Lilah's age and I wanted her to make some to join them so they wouldn't feel lonely.  She thought it was a good idea, but may have forgotten since there is always so much else to do in class (even though I reminded her this morning before I left.)

Anyways, that's really it for this one.  Like an old radio serial: tune in next time for more of the exciting adventures of Lilah-Bird and Dad-guy!
