The Color for Today was White

A search for a lost friend.

Our adventure, dear reader, does not in fact start this morning as it usual does.  No, our adventure starts last night.  I generally put Lilah to bed with the flood of stuffed animals you saw previously so you would think she wouldn't notice if one were missing.  Well, last night, Lilah's newest doll, Caroline, was nowhere to be found when I put her to bed.  I looked high and low, but there was still no sign of her.  I told Lilah I was very sorry and she was going to have to sleep without that doll for the night.  Lilah was sad, but she accepted and I thought that would be the end of it.  That was 8 o'clock.  At 11, we heard moving around upstairs and my wife went to check on Lilah.  Lilah was no longer in her bed and the entire thing was torn apart as she had obviously been searching for Caroline.  Allison picked her up and put her back in bed, asking what she was doing.

"I was looking for Caroline.  I can't find her, but I'll be alright."  Said Lilah, groggily.

My wife came back downstairs and we renewed the search for Caroline, knowing Lilah would keep awake until she made herself sick if we didn't.  Eventually, we found Caroline in the outside pocket of Lilah's backpack.  We took the doll upstairs and nestled it in with Lilah, telling her we found her friend and Lilah smiled and said thank you, then went to sleep.

In light of all that, I'm really surprised Lilah wasn't more of a bear this morning, but she was pretty good.  Aside from again refusing to eat (and then eventually eating), there were very few unpleasant moments.  Because they do a color theme for each months and this one is white, today was the day to wear something white and bring in a white picture.  Lilah wore her pretty white dress with the snow flakes that makes her look like an extra from Eloise and took in a picture of a little girl dressed up as a white mushroom.  Mrs. Wilson pointed out how much the littler girl looked like Lilah and I hadn't noticed, but she did indeed.

Before I left, I made sure to ask Mrs. Fuller if Lilah had gotten in to any trouble and if they would tell us if she did or not.  She assured me Lilah hadn't and they would let us know and was curious as to why I wondered.  I told her Lilah had come home last week and said she got in trouble in class and that Mrs. Fuller had taken her out in to the hall and told her to wait there until she was ready to come back into the class.  As the story unfolded, Mrs. Fuller had a look on her face that I could only describe as amazed.  I told her I figured it hadn't happened because something that big would have been brought to our attention and Mrs. Fuller assured me I was correct.  The problem now, for me, is that I have to start teaching Lilah there is a difference between things she imagines to happen and things that actually happen, though her doctor says these imaginings are quite real to her.  So, I'm not entirely sure how to approach it all.

When I picked Lilah up, she hugged me and proudly displayed a little toy dinosaur which had hatched from the big dinosaur egg they made this week and said "We all got one and I can take him home and eat with him!"

So, all in all, a very good week.  And, most likely, a very tired Lilah Rose.
