Thriftonista: The Art of Looking 'Prime Time' and Saving A Few Bucks
My thoughts of the fashion of thriftiness and corresponding encouragement to all to make it a regular piece of your life style.
In recent years very interesting terms have come about for those who, as I like to say: “shop smarter, instead of with more dollars.” This is a rather lengthy description for someone, which is why I (begrudgingly) find “thriftonista” to be more useful.
Of course the economy has shifted a great deal of people to actively pursue savings. Which is why thrifiting has become very fashionable as of late.
Since I was in my early teens I have been a thrifty little shopper, finding my clothes at places like Sunshine Thrift store, Salvation Army, and clearance racks. I’m not afraid to admit that not every piece I picked up made me look prime time, or even just plainly good. But I learned at great deal about deals.

These lessons learned are worth more than looking fresh to death in the hallways of my high school. It was about learning to shop on a budget for what I needed.
It was later when I got a job at Plato’s Closet in Madison Heights where I learned the duel power of shopping within a budget while finding stylish pieces that suit your tastes, and your body.

There are shops all over the Metro Detroit area; vintage, retail/resale, and second hand stores for everyone to explore saving senses.
Ferndale is neighbors to one of the loveliest shops for finding both vintage thrills and current styles for all fashion tastes and shapes.
Regeneration on Woodward is just a few steps away from Ferndale has a lot to offer. As I hinted, they host a cornucopia of clothes, accessories, and inspiration for any style.
An added bonus for the shop is that they acquire their merchandise by purchasing items from customers. Meaning, you can put together a bag of items, no more than 40, which have collected in your closet, haven’t been able to re-gift, or you’re just ready to let go.
They are always looking for gently used current styles and trends from the last year to two, vintage, retro fashions, and styles.
Regeneration's "buy" days, as they are called, are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. They price of the items while you are about the store, or step out for a bit.
For those who sell items there are options for how you might be paid -- cash or in store credit. You would receive 30 percent of the retail value instantly in cash or 45 percent in store credit. Of course they offer a chance to combine both cash and trade. Items of greater value might be sold on consignment.
So you can clear your closet of the old and renew with fresh welcomed items.
Within the bounds of Ferndale there are many fine shops to pick up new digs at prices that won't dig you in so deep (). Of course, I will always recommend Plato’s Closet in Madison Heights. As Regeneration, they are a retail/resale store-but they are more focused on current styles and trends.
I encourage everyone to try their hand at the second hand experience.
You might only find the finishing touches for your ensembles, or perhaps a tried and true everyday piece. This recommendation to all is simply for the fashion, but because it will put some good change in your life and your bank account.
Be brave thriftonistas, and be bold with your styles!
