Car Club Connects Gay Men, Lesbians With Passion for Cars
The Lambda Car Club, a gay and lesbian-founded car club, is open to all with the only requirement being a love for motor vehicles.
If you’re heading to this weekend’s Woodward Dream Cruise, it's a sure sign you’ll see car enthusiasts who share a common interest – say, Mustangs, Chevys or GTOs – together on Woodward Avenue. Members of the Lambda Car Club (LCC) stand out in a different way.
LCC is a national organization that prides itself on being a group in which gay men and lesbians, and their supporters, can come together to share their interest in motor vehicles. No matter if you own an old car or a new vehicle or don’t even own one at all, you’re welcome to be a part of it.
“The only requirement is that you like cars since we do talk about them a lot,” said Adam Bernard, president of the LCC Detroit Chapter. “It’s a really great group to meet people with common interests and hang out.”

About 2,000 members in more than two-dozen chapters nationwide make up the organization, with 180 members right here in the Motor City area.
Out of the 438 cars inside the garages of local members, one can find larger American vehicles such as Cadillac, Lincoln and Imperial brands. However, there are a few 1903 Ford Model A’s and a fair share of Rolls Royces, Mercedes and Bentleys, as well as a large number of imports including Fiat, Sunbeam and Mini, and even the occasional truck or motorcycle.

“My collection consists of a 1969 C10 pickup truck, a 1979 Chevy Corvette, a 1979 Chevy P10 step van which looks like an ice cream truck, and for a little European flair, (I also have) a 1999 BMW Z3 Roadster convertible while my daily driver is a 2004 Chevy Tahoe,” said Chris Gorski, LCC creative director and Ferndale resident.
“Our club does not specify a certain brand, year or model, it doesn’t matter what kind of car you enjoy."
Members will be partaking the Dream Cruise in the early half of Saturday. They will then gather at a designated member’s home for a group social event, which is just one of two dozen held throughout the year. They also host multiple get-togethers at the in Royal Oak during the cruising season months of June through September.
The club always has its door open to welcome aboard new members. “Just bring a passion for the automobile and a willingness to meet new friends!” Gorski said.
