If you've followed any of my writing - whether it be in my blog's, email blasts or in magazine articles, you've probably seen my philosophy over and over again. It doesn't matter WHAT you do, but do SOMETHING. Here's the second part to that - it doesn't matter who you're doing it for unless it's YOU. Too many people focus on getting in shape or whatever other fitness goal they have, for someone else. They want to look good for their partner, or lack thereof. They want to do it to prove a point, compete with a friend or whatever else. Nothing matters unless you do it for you and you alone. Sound selfish? Good, it is. Will your family benefit if you're healthy and that allows you to live longer? Yep! But do it for yourself, the benefit that will come to everyone else will be a trickle down effect of something you've done for you and you alone. It's ok to be selfish about your health. We've been way too programmed in to thinking that we need to live our lives and do everything in it for the benefit of someone else. Doing something good for ourselves that happens to benefit everyone else...? I think that's fine. The fact that you can say "Hey, this is for me. This is MINE", well that's fine too. Anyone that tells you otherwise has been reading too much BS by people telling you how you should live life for others, while they're being paid by those same others just to tell you how to live your life. If all you care about are pleasing those "others", you'll wind up fat and out of shape one day when those "others" are gone. Be selfish and do it for nothing other than to say that you did it just for you.
