"Adventures in Winterland" is coming to Flint Iceland Arenas

This FREE community event, in celebration of National Skating Month, is scheduled for Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 4:00pm-6:00pm

Flint, MI -- The Flint Iceland Competitive Edge Figure Skating Club (ICEFSC) is teaming up for the fifth year with Genesee County Parks & Recreation Commission and Keep Genesee County Beautiful to host "Adventures in Winterland," an effort to promote healthy lifestyles to the community through ice skating and other activities. The event is scheduled for Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 4:00pm-6:00pm. In addition to the on-ice activities, there will also be informational offerings/giveaways from community sponsors -- YMCA Camp Copneconic, Crim Fitness Foundation and Whimsicality Toys -- as well as several off-ice activities including children's yoga, winter nature explorations (For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum), and even snowshoeing (weather permitting).

"We are fortunate to have partnered with several community member organizations as we promote health and fitness awareness in the coming year," stated Nancy Edwards, Recreation Programs & Grants Officer/Director, Keep Genesee County Beautiful. "As a former figure skater, instructor, and member of the world famous precision skating team, The Hockettes, skating was a huge part of my life for a long time...and teaming with Iceland Arenas was an ideal fit. This year marks our fifth year together."

"Adventures in Winterland" is a FREE community event that will get you and your family up and moving while exploring the fun indoor and outdoor activities, not only winter has to offer, but the Flint community. The skating teams are excited for a successful skating celebration, especially being an Olympic year. Ice skating promotes a healthy lifestyle, burning up to 800 calories an hour! Did you know that one mile is equivalent to 11 laps around the rink? Skaters who complete the "One Mile Skate Challenge" will have the opportunity to receive giveaways (compliments of Learn-to-Skate USA) and be entered in a drawing to win free skating lessons or tickets to a Flint Firebirds game!

"Dort Financial Credit Union is proud to be a sponsor of 'Adventures in Winterland!' The event intends to help people of all ages be more active in the winter months in Michigan, which is important to the health and well-being of our community," stated Laura Nestor, Director of Marketing, Dort Financial Credit Union.
