(flintbeat.com) — Flint officials are considering five ordinances that would move licensing for sign companies, ambulances, pool and billiard halls, card rooms, and firing ranges from the City Clerk's Office to the Planning and Development Department. Requirements for insurance, safety, police investigations, and council approval would largely stay the same, but businesses would file and renew paperwork through a different city office at Flint City Hall. 
2. Inside the Flint water crisis investigation: 6 takeaways from the AG report (mlive.com) — State prosecutors have released a detailed report explaining why years of criminal investigations into the Flint water crisis ended with all charges dismissed and no convictions. The report says court rulings against the one-person grand jury process and expired statutes of limitations, not a lack of evidence, blocked trials over decisions that exposed Flint residents to contaminated water and deadly Legionnaires' disease outbreaks.
3. Michigan gas prices drop 11 cents from a week ago, AAA says (cbsnews.com) — Drivers in Flint are seeing some of the lowest gas prices in Michigan right now, with unleaded averaging about $4.06 per gallon. AAA reports statewide prices have dipped 11 cents in a week, though they remain significantly higher than last year, and analysts warn that late-summer volatility could keep fuel costs elevated into Labor Day.
4. 'They're just people.' Community members come face-to-face with incarcerated residents in a Michigan jail (michiganpublic.org) — Inside Flint's Genesee County Jail, community members are joining monthly conversations with incarcerated residents through the Frederick Douglass Project for Justice, aiming to humanize people behind bars. Paired with the I.G.N.I.T.E. education program launched by Sheriff Chris Swanson, the effort is reducing misconduct and recidivism while inspiring other jails to try similar approaches modeled on what's happening in Flint.
5. Flint man gets more prison time for dragging 2 Bay County deputies during trading card theft (mlive.com) — A man from Flint has received up to four more years in prison after dragging two Bay County deputies with his car during a trading card theft at a Meijer store. The case adds to several prison sentences he's received this year across Michigan for theft and related crimes, with the new terms running at the same time as his existing sentences.
