Flintside Launches New Initiative Covering Flint's 2026 Local Elections (flintside.com) — Flintside is rolling out expanded, yearlong coverage of Flint's 2026 mayoral and city council races, including voter guides, millage explainers, and fact-checked candidate information. The newsroom also plans deep dives on city tax dollars, the water crisis, and misinformation, with special attention to diverse local communities and resident questions.
   

2. Flint man sentenced to 18+ years in federal prison for heroin case (mlive.com) — A 38-year-old Flint resident has been sentenced to more than 18 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possessing heroin with intent to distribute, alongside other drugs and firearms seized in a 2021 search. His federal time will run concurrently with state sentences tied to a separate murder case, following investigations by multiple federal agencies.
   

3. Flint City Council approves federal housing, community development grants (wnem.com) — More than $4.5 million in federal housing and community development funds are moving forward after Flint City Council's latest vote, restoring support for local programs. The money will aid Habitat for Humanity repairs, blight enforcement, the YWCA Safe Center, youth mentoring, and other neighborhood services across the city.
   

4. Flint Eastside Compassionate Mission receives $8,000 Child Welfare Society Grant (theflintcouriernews.com) — Flint Eastside Compassionate Mission has received an $8,000 grant from the Child Welfare Society of Flint to support its 2026 Christmas Gift Program for children on the city's Eastside. The long-standing local charity, founded by Flint women in 1915, continues its legacy of improving childcare access and brightening holidays for neighborhood families.
   

5. The Ally Challenge and Good Sports hosts field day at Warwick Hills in Grand Blanc Twp. (midmichigannow.com) — Genesee County youth athletes just scored big as The Ally Challenge and Good Sports donated $15,000 in sports gear each to 810 Swish, International Academy of Flint, and Genesee County Swift. At a Warwick Hills field day, Swift athletes tried multiple sports and left with new equipment and school supplies aimed at keeping costs down for local families.
