Career readiness and leadership skills program available at local high schools, virtually (flintandgenesee.org) — High school students in Flint and across Genesee County can soon enroll in TeenQuest, a free career readiness and leadership program run by Flint & Genesee Education & Talent starting Sept. 21. With in-person sessions at several local schools and flexible virtual options, teens ages 14–19 can build job skills, financial literacy, conflict resolution, and goal-setting abilities to prepare for work or college.

Flint breaks ground on $17.5M regional police and fire training campus (mlive.com) — Flint officials have broken ground on a $17.5 million regional police and fire training campus that will be built on Industrial Drive at a former fire station site. The state-of-the-art facility will let Flint and Genesee County first responders train year-round locally, with an indoor firearms range, firefighter training towers, classrooms and future virtual simulation space, reducing travel costs and improving readiness.

4. 2026 Annual Carriage Town Porch Fest (midmichigannow.com) — Flint residents can look forward to Carriage Town Porch Fest on Sept. 19, when porches around W. First Avenue and Mason Street transform into live music stages. From 5 to 10 p.m., neighbors can stroll closed streets, enjoy local bands, food, and art, and park at the Dort Durant Carriage Company or nearby city garages.

Emotional goodbye: Flint Central comes down after 103 years, brick by brick (mlive.com) — Demolition has begun on historic Flint Central High School, marking an emotional farewell for generations of alumni while clearing the way for a new $135 million high school on Crapo Street. Flint Community Schools plans to open the new building in 2028, preserving select architectural elements and a time capsule so future students still feel connected to the city's educational past.
