2. City of Flint to Host S.A.P.P.H.I.R.E.S. 'Preventing Sex Assault Crimes & Empowering Survivors' Conference (flintside.com) — Flint residents are invited to a free two-day S.A.P.P.H.I.R.E.S. conference on preventing sexual assault and supporting survivors, hosted by the Flint Police Department Sept. 9–10 at City Hall. Mott Foundation launches second round of Youth Choice Awards (theflintcouriernews.com) — Flint kids and teens can now apply for the second round of Mott Foundation Youth Choice Awards, offering 50 remaining grants of $1,926 for local school and community projects through Oct. 9. Eligible K-12 students connected to Flint schools or youth programs can propose ideas like clubs, mental health efforts, or classroom resources, with adults submitting applications on their behalf.

Man dies after shooting in Flint neighborhood; police investigate (mlive.com) — A man has died after a Friday afternoon shooting in the 1600 block of Wisconsin Avenue in a Flint neighborhood, and police are investigating. Detectives are working to identify a suspect and are asking anyone with information to contact the Flint Police Criminal Investigation Bureau or submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers.

Two Flint fire stations temporarily close amid renovations (midmichigannow.com) — Two Flint fire stations on Pierson and Atherton roads are temporarily closed for long-overdue kitchen renovations, but officials say response times and coverage for residents have not been affected. Firefighters from Stations 6 and 8 are reassigned to other Flint stations while the city upgrades facilities for its crews.
