Residents raised concerns about location, safety, and being left out of big decisions after the water crisis, while county staff promised better communication and clarified the facility would only collect and store materials.
   

2. Bay City, Flint, MI Celebrate Recycling Successes (wasteadvantagemag.com) — Flint leaders just announced household recycling has jumped to 2,200 tons a year, a 253% increase since rolling out free "Flint Strong" recycling and trash carts to more than 34,000 homes. Tunnicliff to Retire; Hill named next GISD Superintendent (flintbeat.com) — Genesee Intermediate School District, headquartered in Flint, is preparing for a leadership change that will affect schools across Genesee County, including yours. Superintendent Steven Tunnicliff will retire in June 2027, and Deputy Superintendent Tricia Hill has been unanimously appointed to take over on July 1, 2027, ensuring continuity for local students and educators.
   

4. Flint-area paramedic named Michigan EMS Practitioner of the Year (abc12.com) — A longtime Genesee County paramedic and dispatcher based in the Flint area has been named Michigan's 2026 EMS Practitioner of the Year. Colleagues say Andrew Graves' calm leadership and decades of field experience help coordinate emergency responses and support MedStar's Genesee County operations that serve local residents.
   

5. Presidential historian speaks at Flint Public Library about America 250 (midmichigannow.com) — Jon Meacham brought his "America 250: Then, Now & Next" keynote to the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library, drawing local residents into a conversation about U.S. history and democracy. The visit also included a separate session for University of Michigan-Flint students, giving them a closer look at his perspective on the nation's past and future.
