For Howell families, the numbers highlight long-term demographic shifts and persistent statewide achievement gaps between racial and ethnic groups that continue to affect Michigan students. 
• Pinckney bus driver honored for quick thinking during dangerous storm (bnd.com) — Severe storms on Sept. 3 knocked out power across Livingston County, closing Howell Public Schools and disrupting nearby districts. Fowlerville and Pinckney schools stayed open, where staff, police, and especially one quick-thinking bus driver safely sheltered students during tornado warnings and blocked roads, drawing praise from superintendents for the community's calm response.
