Kalamazoo's Can Am Peace Jam moves location due to environmental concerns at Arcadia Creek (wwmt.com) — Kalamazoo's Can Am Peace Jam is shifting from Arcadia Creek Festival Place to downtown streets along Water Street and Haymarket Plaza because of environmental concerns at the creek site. The Sept. 19 festival will still feature music and peace-building activities while the city keeps Arcadia Creek closed as a precaution during further environmental assessment and cleanup. 
2. Man allegedly searched for victim on Facebook 6 times before and after Kalamazoo shooting (wwmt.com) — A Kalamazoo man is being held without bond after investigators linked him to a July 11 fatal shooting outside Chicago Munchies through surveillance video, phone data, and alleged celebratory messages about the victim's death. Police say he searched the victim's Facebook profile multiple times before and after the shooting and is now headed for court hearings in September.
3. Kalamazoo food co-op dispute leads to fight, changed locks (woodtv.com) — A long-running governance fight at Kalamazoo's People's Food Co-op boiled over when the interim general manager and a member were involved in a physical struggle as a faction claiming to be the new board tried to change leadership. Locks were reportedly changed while shoppers continued browsing, and some owners say a large recall vote shows strong support for new management and more transparency.
4. Kalamazoo-area high school football scoreboard for Friday's season openers (mlive.com) — Kalamazoo-area football fans can see how local teams opened their seasons, including a close Jenison win over Kalamazoo Central and an overtime victory for Kalamazoo United. The roundup lists final scores from Thursday and Friday games involving Kalamazoo and surrounding communities, giving you a quick snapshot of how regional programs started the year.
5. Michigan direct admissions program launches for high school students (k12dive.com) — Michigan high school students can now be pre-admitted to participating colleges through the new MI College Match program, and Kalamazoo College has signed on. The college says it will use the system to reach more students while keeping its own admission standards, potentially opening clearer, earlier pathways for Kalamazoo-area teens considering four-year degrees.
