The money, drawn from Michigan's Disaster and Emergency Contingency Fund, will support local recovery efforts when federal aid wasn't available, alongside allocations for other counties and state agencies.

The award is part of more than $500,000 given to eight Michigan charities, alongside Tom Izzo's pledge to donate another $500,000 over five years.

Michigan social justice groups urge people of faith to go to polls (publicnewsservice.org) — Faith and community leaders are meeting in downtown Lansing today to plan how to mobilize voters around looming federal policy changes to Medicaid, SNAP, and immigration enforcement. The 1 p.m. roundtable at the Michigan AFL-CIO building will explore how these shifts could affect local families' healthcare, food assistance, and finances, and share nonpartisan tools to help Lansing-area residents vote in the 2026 midterms.
