(lansing730.com) — Lansing residents are invited to explore Downtown, Old Town, and REO Town during Downtown Day this Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Local businesses will offer a shopping passport with prize opportunities while Downtown Lansing Inc. highlights each district's history and character, encouraging you to eat, shop, and support multiple neighborhoods in one day.

Family-owned Mexican restaurant to open near Eastwood Towne Center (lansingstatejournal.com) — A new Gran Maya Mexican restaurant is set to open in October near Eastwood Towne Center, giving Lansing-area residents another local option for tacos, fajitas, and margaritas. The family-owned spot will seat about 160 people inside, plus 40 on a patio, and plans to feature local cider alongside Mexican draft beers at its full-service bar.
   

3. Family, cold case detectives still seeking justice for Lansing hero after 14 years (wlns.com) — In Lansing, family members and cold case detectives are still seeking answers in the 2011 killing of Marcus Schrauben, who was shot while defending coworkers during a robbery at a local KFC. Investigators hope someone who knows the gunman will finally come forward, and his loved ones say their grief has only deepened with time.
   

4. Advocates push water affordability bills at Michigan state Capitol (wilx.com) — At the Capitol in Lansing, advocates are urging lawmakers to pass bills that would tie water bills to income and protect residents from shutoffs. The effort, led by Rep. Emily Dievendorf of Lansing, highlights how rising costs strain families statewide, while local customers can already seek flexible payment help through the Lansing Board of Water and Light and 211.
   

5. Michigan fall foliage forecast: Peak colors coming in October (wowo.com) — Lansing and the rest of Mid-Michigan are on track for some of the state's most vibrant fall colors, with peak foliage expected toward the end of October. Meteorologists say ample September rain and cool nights are setting up a strong season, while northern and Upper Peninsula areas will peak earlier in the month.
