Lorenzo Center Lecture Explores Native Americans Before and After Statehood (11 a.m. and 1 p.m.)

The Lorenzo Cultural Center's latest exhibit, Becoming Michigan: From Revolution to Statehood, is now open to the public through May 5.

Visitors will learn about the state's early history via exhibits, presentations and activities.

On Feb. 29 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. the topic is "How Michigan Got Its Land: Indian Treaties in History and Myth." Here, Charles E. Cleland, Ph.D., professor emeritus, Michigan State University, will talk about the lives of the Native Americans in the years before and after statehood. The talk includes how settlers impacted their lives, as well as the economy, U.S. Indian policy and treaty obligations.

The program is free, but pre-registration is required.
Exhibits are free and don’t require advance registration to view. The Lorenzo Cultural Center is open 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday and 1-4 p.m. Sundays.
