1. Planning commission supports rezoning (candgnews.com) — Macomb Township's Planning Commission has backed a two-year extension of a conditional rezoning for six parcels at 22 Mile and Garfield, keeping a major development plan alive pending township board approval. Commissioners also tabled the Project Huron warehouse and office proposal at 23 Mile and Garfield so developers can revise plans to meet township and state environmental requirements.
   

2. Best Halloween events for kids in metro Detroit 2026: Trick-... (metroparent.com) — Families in Macomb can plan ahead for several kid-friendly Halloween outings, including a big trick-or-treat carnival Oct. 16 at 20699 Macomb St. with a haunted house, magic show and trail. Additional events at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights and Tillson Street in Romeo offer more chances for safe, festive fun, but many require advance tickets and can sell out quickly.
   

3. Invasive box tree moth confirmed in Genesee County (wnem.com) — Macomb County remains under a state quarantine for the invasive box tree moth, which can severely damage boxwood plants and now has been newly detected in nearby Genesee County. If you grow or sell boxwood in Macomb, strict rules limit moving plants or yard waste outside or even within the quarantined area, and residents are urged to report any suspicious damage before treating or disposing of plants.
   

4. Warren teacher faces child sexual assault, child pornography charges (clickondetroit.com) — A Warren teacher is jailed in Macomb County on a $1 million bond after prosecutors there filed child pornography and drug charges, on top of separate sexual assault counts in Roscommon County. Macomb County's prosecutor says the investigation into additional potential victims and evidence is ongoing, while the Warren Consolidated School District has placed the teacher on leave and is cooperating with authorities.
   

5. A Hidden World of Gems, Crystals & Fossils Is Coming to Metro Detroit (littleguidedetroit.com) — Macomb County families can explore gems, fossils and crystals when the Greater Detroit Gem, Mineral & Fossil Show returns to Macomb Community College's Sports & Expo Center Oct. 9–11, 2026. Kids 14 and under get in free with an adult, and visitors can enjoy hands-on fossil digs, gold panning, educational talks and dozens of dealers selling rocks, minerals and jewelry.
