📰 News we're reading

1. Macomb Township Fire Department reaches historic staffing high after year of recruiting (wxyz.com) — Macomb Township's fire department has reached its highest-ever staffing level after a year of intensive recruiting, adding 13 full-time firefighters and boosting daily on-duty crews from about eight to 14. The change follows a serious house fire near 21 Mile Road that raised concerns about response capacity, and township officials say the expanded force will better protect growing neighborhoods and improve firefighter safety.

2. Macomb Sheriff's joins program to assist deputies interact with vulnerable people (macombdaily.com) — Macomb Township families with loved ones who have cognitive or developmental challenges can now enroll them in the S.A.V.E.S. Project, giving Macomb County deputies key information before and during emergencies. The program, active in all sheriff-served communities, uses registration details, QR code stickers, and a Blue Envelope system to help officers communicate more calmly and effectively with vulnerable residents.

3. Infant dies after head-on crash in Macomb County, sheriff's office says (bnd.com) — An infant has died after a head-on collision on 25 Mile Road at Petunia Drive in Macomb Township, despite CPR from bystanders and extensive efforts by firefighters and deputies. The child's mother from Chesterfield Township and a Macomb Township driver suffered minor injuries, and investigators say alcohol is not believed to be a factor as the crash remains under review.

4. $75M lawsuit: Woman claims officer used domestic violence call to sexually harass and assault her (wxyz.com) — A Warren woman's $75 million lawsuit against a former city police officer is putting a spotlight on how Macomb County authorities handled her sexual assault complaint. The Sheriff's Office reportedly sought four criminal charges, but the Prosecutor's Office declined, prompting sharp criticism from County Executive Mark Hackel and renewed questions about accountability in local law enforcement.
