New zoning code approved (candgnews.com) — Macomb Township has overhauled its zoning ordinance, changing how land can be used, from data centers and short-term rentals to roadside farm stalls and special land uses. Officials say the new, easier-to-read code and upcoming master plan update will guide future development, but they're frustrated few residents showed up to weigh in.

2. Former judge to lead Conviction Integrity Unit (legalnews.com) — Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido has tapped former county Circuit Court Judge Mary Chrzanowski to lead the Conviction Integrity Unit, starting Aug. 31. The unit, backed by a major federal grant, reviews innocence claims and old cases to ensure Macomb County convictions remain fair, accurate, and supported by modern forensic evidence.

3. Volunteer Recruitment Fair returns to Macomb Mall with over 24 groups (mlive.com) — Macomb County is inviting residents to a free Volunteer Recruitment Fair at Macomb Mall in Roseville on Friday, Sept. 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. More than two dozen nonprofits, including Meals on Wheels and Macomb County Habitat for Humanity, will be on hand to connect locals with year-round volunteer opportunities that support seniors, health, and community services.

4. Warren man sentenced to 22-50 years for murder of his partner (cbsnews.com) — A Warren man has been sentenced in Macomb County Circuit Court to 22½ to 50 years in prison for killing his partner, following a 2026 jury conviction. Prosecutors say Warren police found the victim after an October 2025 shooting, and the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office hopes the sentence offers some closure to loved ones.

5. Detroit man sentenced for fleeing from cops, killing Oakland County grandmother (theoaklandpress.com) — A Detroit man has been sentenced in Macomb County Circuit Court to 10–15 years for a deadly high-speed police chase crash that killed a 72-year-old grandmother near Nine Mile and Van Dyke in Warren. Prosecutor Peter Lucido says the case highlights the danger of fleeing police and is renewing calls for mandatory minimum prison terms for such offenses.
