LCN Boys Track Races to MAC Blue Title

The L'Anse Creuse North Crusaders boys track team took the MAC Blue Division and dual-meet titles this year.

The 2011 boys track and field team achieved a mean feat.

The Crusaders won the Macomb Area Conference Blue Division and were crowned dual-meet champions in the same year.

"We've checked our records, have good sources and believe that we are the first to win both titles," said L'Anse Creuse North boys coach Sharon Hicks. "And we were undefeated this season, too."

The Crusaders won the dual-meet title on May 10 against Marine City and took the division championship May 24 at Cousino. The team won the division meet by 11 points over second place Fraser.

"I was overall impressed with the heart of this team," Hicks said. "On paper, it didn't look like we were strong enough to beat the others, but we talked about it and knew that if the boys wanted it bad enough, it was possible. Then, after we won the dual meet championship, the coaches wondered if they could step up and do it again. At the division meet, we had some boys make sacrifices and they sure stepped up at the right time. They decided they wanted it bad enough."

"I'm very proud of the boys," Hicks said. "I'm a proud momma."
