Macomb Township Man Charged with Killing His Wife

Hal Byrom is still hospitalized from Oct. 1 incident in which his wife died.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI — A 44-year-old Macomb Township man was arraigned Thursday from his hospital bed on two felonies related to the Oct. 1 shooting death of his wife, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

Hal Diallo Byrom was charged with first-degree murder and felony firearms possession in 41A District Court in the death of his wife, 38-year-old Ebony Renee Byrom, the Macomb Daily reports.

Byrom was denied bond. He is accused of shooting his wife to death as she placed a 911 call at about 1:03 a.m. from their home in the 16600 block of Country Ridge Lane in Macomb Township. While on the line with the Sheriff’s dispatcher, personnel could hear several gunshots in the background. Communication with the caller was lost. Within minutes, sheriff’s dispatchers received a call from a neighbor reporting that they heard gunshots.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they located the 911 caller, Ebony Byrom and her husband, according to the Daily. Both were suffering from gunshot wounds, but Ebony Byrom was dead at the scene. Hal Byrom was suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Deputies located a .40 caliber handgun at the scene. It is registered to Hal Byrom.

The couple’s 16-year-old son was in the home and heard the gunshots. He walked into the room, found the pair on the ground and also called 911.

Hal Byrom’s next court date is scheduled for Nov. 3.
