The Red Cross is partnering with Milford United Methodist Church for a blood drive next Friday, October 9 from 11 a.m. to 5 pm.
"This will be the 12th Blood Drive at MUMC since rebooting the program in 2023," says Wayne Loder, Blood Program Leader for the church. "We have been successful in this critical endeavor thanks not only to members of our church, but also the community-at-large. Community members realize that making a blood donation is truly the 'Gift of Life' as every unit donated can save up to three lives."
The upcoming blood drive will be accepting Whole Blood, as well as Power Red which collects a concentrated dose of red blood cells while returning plasma and platelets to the donor. Those wishing to make a Power Red donation can do so if they have any of the blood types: O-positive and negative, A-negative, and B negative.
While The Red Cross is seeking all blood types, the organization, which provides 40% of the nation's blood supply, is particularly interested in new blood donors and black donors whose blood type may help to combat sickle-cell anemia in black recipients.
To sign up for the Milford United Methodist Church - Red Cross blood drive, use the blood donor app, go to www.redcrossblood.org., or call 1-800-Red-Cross.
Donors at the MUMC blood drive will receive from the Red Cross a $15 e-gift card to a store of their choice.
Milford United Methodist Church is located at 1200 Atlantic Street, next to the Milford Post Office.
