See history come alive and find out how settlers and American Indians lived in the Colonial times of Michigan -- from 1700 to 1796. Kensington Metropark will be teeming with re-enactorss, merchants, demonstrations and more on Aug. 13 and 14.
"Colonial Kensington" happens from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at the picnic area north of Martindale Beach.
The weekend boasts plenty of highlights, including:

- More than 200 costumed American Indian, French, British and American re-enactors.
- 18th century merchants selling authentic and reproduction home decor, clothing and toys.
- Battle demonstratons toward the end of each day, featuring musket and cannon fire.
- 18th century crafts and demonstrations throughout the day. Those who attend will see carpentry, medicine, blacksmithing, tinsmithing, candle-making, cooking, quilting, sewing, woodcarving and more.
- Plus there will be storytelling fun for kids and games.
There is no added charge to enjoy the colonial fun, but a Metroparks vehicle entry permit is required to enter any Metropark which is only $25 annually for regular admission, $15 annually for seniors, or $5 daily. General information can be found at www.metroparks.com or by calling 1-800-47-PARKS.
