Novi Board of Education Gets Organized for 2011-12 School Year

The Board completed several organizational tasks at its meeting July 14.

The Board of Education is ready to start the 2011-2012 school year.

The board completed several of its routine organization items for next year and recognized member George Kortlandt for his 16 years of service at its meeting Thursday.

Renewed Memberships in Organizations

The Board renewed its memberships for the 2011-12 school year in three organizations.

  1. Michigan High School Athletic Association—The major benefit of membership is being eligible to participate in MHSAA sponsored tournaments and meets in various sports. Membership is free.
  2. Michigan Association of School Boards—Some benefits of membership include personal liability insurance, legislative representation, information on legal matters, and receiving two publications highlighting issues in state, local and federal education. Cost is $7,304. 
  3. Metro Detroit Bureau of School Studies, Inc.—Some benefits of membership include legal opinions, statistical data, fax services, and area salary and job description analysis. Cost is $2,511.

Approval of Support Organizations

The Board also approved a list of the district's support organizations, allowing them to operate in the school district. The organizations include:

  • Novi High School Athletic Boosters
  • Novi High School Band Boosters
  • Novi Middle School PTO
  • Novi Meadows PTO
  • Deerfield Community Council
  • Novi Woods PTO
  • Orchard Hills PTO
  • Parkview PTO
  • Village Oaks Interested Citizens and Educators (VOICE)

 

Committee Appointments

President Bruce Bagdady appointed members to represent the board at two organizations.

  • Novi Educational Foundation: Vice President Dennis O'Connor
  • Oakland Intermediate School District Liaison: Trustee Jason Manar

 

Board Meeting Dates

The Board approved its meeting dates for the 2011-2012 school year, which are for the most part on the first and third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m.


The next Board of Education meeting is Thursday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Educational Services Building.
