Novi, Catholic Central Students Make National Merit Semifinals

More than 20 students from Novi's schools are eligible to become a finalist.

Thirteen seniors from and nine seniors from were among the 16,000 students nationwide named as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Students were selected by taking the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. About 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to be named as finalists in February. To become a finalist, semifinalists must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed by the high school principal and earn high scores on their SATs, as well as submit an application and essay.

From there, about half the finalists will be selected as National Merit Scholars and qualify for college scholarships.
