Novi High School Marching Band Prepares for New Season
Members of the Novi High School marching band have started rehearsing for this year's show based on the music of Sting.
After a summer off, the 156 musicians and 24 color guard participants of 's marching band went back to the stadium Saturday to wrap up a week of band camp with a performance for families and friends.
The band is working on music and movement for this year's show called Symphonicities, which includes four different songs by Sting from the album he recorded with the same name. The album has some of his popular songs reinterpreted as classical symphonic compositions.
The marching band is under the direction of Mark Hourigan and plans to perform during halftime at all of the high school's home football games, leading up to several competitions against other area school districts during October.

The band hosts its own competition at Novi High School Saturday, Sept. 24, and the season culminates with the state marching band finals Nov. 5 at Ford Field in Detroit.
Band members will be canvassing neighborhoods in the school district to collect cans and bottles Saturday, Sept. 10 for its first fundraiser of the school year.
