'Pied Pipers' of Renaissance Music Perform Sunday at Novi Library

Piffaro, The Renaissance Band, brings a unique collection of musical instruments to their 3 p.m. concert.

Meet the "pied-pipers of early music" and listen to a variety of Renaissance-era musical instruments during a free family-friendly concert held Sunday at the Novi Public Library.

Piffaro, The Renaissance Band, performs at 3 p.m., creating a unique sound from shawms, sackbuts, recorders, krumhorns, bagpipes, lutes, guitars, harps, and a variety of percussion — all careful reconstructions of instruments from the period. The concert is part of the Chamber Music Society of Detroit (CMSD) 2012-13 Listen @ The Library series.

In addition, Piffaro will be in performing in a Discovery Series student webcast concert to schools across Michigan, a Signature Series concert at Seligman Performing Arts Center on March 23, and a strolling concert at the Detroit Institute of Arts on March as part of the CMSD’s new inDepth Series. The strolling concert at the DIA is open to the public free of charge.
