Shamrock Family Tradition Continues at Catholic Central Family Fest
The high school held its 20th annual Family Fest, bringing together students, family and alumni for an afternoon of food, faith and fun at the campus in Novi Sunday.
Giant strips of spirit-themed, hand-painted white paper filled the ceilings and hallways at Sunday, creating a canopy of Shamrock pride, as attendees at the 20th annual made their way through the school during Sunday's event.
Attendees at the festival feasted on everything from Polish fare to pizza, subs, fine chocolates and ice cream from 21 restauranteurs, most of whom are Catholic Central alumni.
The school's jazz band added the entertainment to the atmosphere.

Lining the sides of the gymnasium Sunday, the respective clubs offered a variety of Shamrock-themed sale items, ranging from t-shirts to pajama bottoms to umbrellas, coats and caps. All proceeds help support the school and its extra-curricular programs.
The Family Fest tradition began decades ago when Fr. Richard Elmer, C.S.B., felt the need for a special event bringing together the school family at the start of the new academic season. Coordinated by the Mother's Club, the Dad's Club, and the Alumni Association, the event provides an opportunity for old friends to reunite and new friends and family to come together as they become a part of the Central Catholic family.

It was this kind of family atmosphere and support that drew Dan and Denise Devine of Commerce Township to enroll their son Kyle Devine, a 14-year-old sophomore in the school.
"I can't describe it, it's just the atmosphere here, " Denise Devine said. "It's a very good fit for him. I can't think of a school with this much parental involvement, and its non-stop activities."
Kyle is a member of the school's JV Quiz Bowl team, hoping that next year he will make the varsity team, which won a national championship last year.
