5 Things to Know This Week: Lake Orion in Basketball Finals, Education Conversation, Meetings and More

Here's what's happening in and around Oakland Township and Lake Orion this week.

There is a lot going on this week. Here are some highlights:

  1. Basketball game: At 7 p.m. Monday at  the Lake Orion Dragons will take on Bloomfield Hills Lahser High School for the boys regional basketball finals.
  2. Education conversation: There will be a future of education community conversation from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday at the . Attendees will discuss everything from ideas to improve student learning and classroom size to online learning and early childhood programs.   3. Meetings: Monday the will meet at 7:30 p.m. at  and the Rochester Community Schools Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. in the Harrison Room of the . Tuesday, the Lake Orion Downtown Development Authority will meet at 7:15 p.m. at Village Hall and the Oakland Township Board of Trustees meets at 7 p.m. at where it will hold a public hearing for the project. Meetings continue Wednesday with an Oakland Township Parks and Recreation Commission meeting at 7 p.m. at the building and a Lake Orion Board of Education meeting at 7 p.m. at the .
  4. events: From 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, a job seekers workshop will take place. The job seekers group is headed by a career counselor and attendees will receive job seeking support, resources and networking opportunities. The group meets twice a month at the library. Also, for teens who have read The Hunger Games, the library will host a Hunger Games evening where teens test their own quickness and strength. The event is 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday.
  5. Weather: There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms Monday and Thursday this week, with sunny skies in the forecast for Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures are expected to rise to the mid-60s by Wednesday, with lows hovering near 50 degrees most of the week.
