5 Things to Know This Week: Suicide Prevention Forum, Recycling

Here's what's happening in and around Oakland Township this week.

There is a lot going on this week. Here are some highlights:

  1. Weather: According to the National Weather Service, precipitation is in the forecast every day but Thursday. There is a 20 percent chance of snow Monday, with a high near 40 degrees during the day and strong winds. High temperatures for the week are expected to remain in the mid- to high 30s, with lows hovering in the 20s. On Tuesday night, there is an 80 percent chance of freezing rain, sleet and snow combined, with a 70 percent chance of rain and sleet Wednesday during the day and a mix of rain and snow at night. Rain is in the forecast for Friday as well.
  2. Suicide prevention forum: Lake Orion Community Schools is working closely with community members to raise awareness about suicide and how to prevent it. At 7 p.m. Monday, national speaker Dave Opalewski, a professor from Central Michigan University, will conduct a suicide prevention forum in auditorium. Parents in the community are invited to attend.
  3. Meetings: There is a Rochester Community Schools Board of Education meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the . The Oakland Township Board of Trustees meeting scheduled for Tuesday night at has been canceled due to the presidential primary. There is an all day workshop for the Lake Orion Community Schools Board of Education from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday. From 11 a.m. to noon there will be an executive session, followed by a 30 minute lunch before the public workshop continues.
