5 Things to Know This Week: Township Meetings, Cyberbullying Class

Here's what's happening in and around Oakland Township this week.

There is a lot going on this week. Here are some highlights:

  1. Meetings: There are two school board and two township meetings this week. The Rochester Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. Monday at the administration building, and the Lake Orion Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday at that district's administration building, 315 N. Lapeer St. The Oakland Township Planning Commission meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Township Hall, and the Parks and Recreation Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the .
  2. Weather: The week will kick off on a warm note, according to the National Weather Service, with a high of 43 degrees and sunny skies forecasted for Monday. Temperatures will steadily drop throughout the week, with an anticipated high of 27 degrees Friday. There is a 20 percent chance of snow showers Wednesday; otherwise, mostly cloudy skies highlight the weather for the week.
  3. Cyberbullying class: At 7 p.m. Wednesday, the will host a presented by the Rochester Area Youth Assistance for teens. The class will run an hour and detail how to be safe in the cyberworld and how to cope with being bullied online and consequences for bullying.
  4. Last day to register: Saturday is the registration deadline for the Parks and Recreation Let's Cross-Country Ski program from 10-11:30 a.m. Feb. 16. The program shows locals how to to use the skis, tells the history of them, and participants will go for a short cross-country hike at . The program will go on regardless if there is no snow. Cost is $6 per child for residents and $8 for nonresidents; equipment is provided. To register, call 248-651-7810, ext. 405.
  5. Great Depression presentation: Local author Robert Lytle will give a presentation at the Orion Township Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Thursday about local history and Orion Township during the Great Depression. His recently published book, Mr. Blair’s Labyrinth, will act as the center of discussion.
