Blessings in a Backpack - Lake Orion: First Backpacks Ready to Go Home With Students!
Ninety days after kicking off the Blessings in a Backpack-Lake Orion initiative, including a big community effort during the "Have a Heart * Feed a Child" February Fundraiser, Blessings in a Backpack-Lake Orion has reached it's first goal of raising $24,000!
Now that the first monetary goal has been reached, Blessings in a Backpack-Lake Orion has started to pack backpacks! The first packing of backpacks took place on Wednesday 10th. Steering Committee members and helpers packed almost 50 backpacks! Now the backpacks are ready to go home with Blanche Sims Elementary and Pine Tree Elementary students today,Friday, April 12th!
This would not have been possible without the community of Lake Orion getting behind the cause. Many thanks must go to all those who helped make it happen - the local restaurants who hosted Dine-to-Donate nights, the local businesses and community organizations who acted as donation stations as well as the many businesses and private individuals who made donations. There have also been many people who have stepped forward to volunteer and their help will be invaluable in the weeks and years to come as the program establishes and grows. The ultimate goal of Blessings in a Backpack-Lake Orion is to have the program in every school in the district!
