Lake Orion Resident Receives 2013 OCCMHA Achievement Award

Lake Orion resident, Liz Janovits, received a 2013 Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority (OCCMHA) Achievement Award during the organization’s annual Keys to Total Health Conference on Monday, April 15, at The Troy Marriott.

The OCCMHA Achievement Awards honor the successes and accomplishments of individuals who have disabilities, including adults with mental illness, children with serious emotional disturbances, and adults and children with developmental disabilities, and individuals with substance use disorders.

Janovits was presented with the 2013  “Director’s
Award,” for inspiring people to strive to be their best, advocating for others, and working to improve her community.

Everyone who interacts with Janovits knows that she is
caring, concerned, and empathetic. She’s an active Consumer Advisory Committee member at OCCMHA and Training and Treatment Innovations; a Speechcraft graduate, and Serves on the OCCMHA Consumer Strategic Planning Workgroup.

Janovits is also known by many as the “Voice of Freedom Road Transportation,” a volunteer driver program that offers reliable transportation options to Oakland County’s underserved residents.

Janovits was also quick to rise to the occasion when asked to go to Lansing and testify about Medicaid expansion. She shared information about her life in ways that were both serious and humorous.
