Liquid Lightning Swim Team Once Again Among State's Best

LAKE ORION, MICH.—Liquid Lightning once again ranked as one of the state’s top swim teams with a fourth-place overall finish at the 12 & Under Short Course 2013 State Championships, held March 8-10 in Kentwood, Mich., and a tenth-place overall finish at the 13-14 & Open Short Course 2013 State Championships, held March 15-17, in Ypsilanti, Mich.

Jorge Roman earned two State Champion titles with his first-place finishes in the Male 11-12 division’s 50 Breast and 100 Breast. Roman also placed second in the 200 Breast, eighth in the 400 Individual Medley (IM), ninth in the 200 IM, and 13th in the 500 Free. In the same division, Simon Baumgartner earned 10th in both the 50 Free and 200 IM, 12th in the 200 Free and 500 Free, and 14th in the 100 Free. Daniel Reimchen swam to 14th place in the 200 Breast and 16th in the 50 Breast, and Peter Corsetti placed 15th in both the 50 Free and 100 Free.

In the Male Open division, Daniel Seeds placed 10th in the 100 Back and 13th in the 200 Back, and Cheyne Stresky came in 12th in the 1650 Free. In the Male 10 & Under division, Joseph Scola was 14th in the 50 Back and 16th in the 50 Fly.

LL’s female swimmers also provided many strong performances. In the 11 – 12 division, Courtney Connolly placed second in the 100 IM and 200 IM; third in the 50 Back; sixth in the 400 IM; eighth in the 200 Free; and ninth in the 100 Back. Reese McCorry came in fourth in the 100 Breast and ninth in the 50 Breast and 200 Breast. In the Female 10 & Under division, Meghan Fleury placed third in the 50 Back, fifth in the 50 Free, and 12th in the 100 Free. Sydney Stricklin placed third in the 200 IM; fourth in the 100 IM and 50 Free; and fifth in the 100 Free, 200 Free, and 500 Free. Lauren Sielicki placed sixth in the 50 Fly and 100 Fly, and 10th in both the 50 Back and 200 IM.

Also in the Female 11 – 12 division, Claire Abbasse swam her way to sixth in the 100 Free; 14th in the 50 Free; and 13th in both the 100 Back and 100 Fly. Her older sister, Kirstyn Abbasse, in the Female 13-14 division, placed sixth in the 200 Free; 10th in the 500 Free; 12th in the 100 Free; 13th in the 200 IM; and 15th in the 100 Fly. Also in the Female 13-14 division, Adrienne Goins earned a 12th-place finish in the 100 Back and a 14th-place finish in the 200 Back. Also swimming their way to the top 16 in this division were Sara Heines, who was 12th in the 1000 Free and 400 IM, and 10th in the 200 Back, as well as Sarah Hennings, who was 11th in the 200 Fly and 14th in the 100 Fly. Natalie Zainea came in 14th in the 50 Free, and Madeleine Welsh placed 12th in the 100 Breast and 13th in the 200 Breast.

In the Female Open division, Hannah Kopydlowski earned 10th-place finishes in both the 200 Free and 100 Breast, as well as fourth in the 50 Free. Emily Shallman came in eighth in the 100 Fly and 15th in the 400 IM. Amanda Thielen came in sixth in the 100 Back and 15th in the 200 Back, and Krystal Karas came in 11th in the 50 Free.
