Keep An Eye On Your Cars: Numerous Thefts From Vehicles Reported

There have been numerous incidents of damages to and thefts from vehicles recently in Oakland Township.

Highlights from reports from the past week:

Items stolen from vehicles

• An 18-year-old man had parked his vehicle in his driveway on the 2000 block of West Buell Road on Tuesday night, only to find the next morning that someone had entered his vehicle, which he believe he left unlocked, a police report stated. The report noted that $3,376 worth of valuables were stolen from his car. No damage to the car was reported. Property reported stolen included a laptop, Fossil watch, GPS, graphing calculator, radar detector and more.
• A 40-year-old Oakland Township woman reported that someone broke in to her family’s 2012 Jeep and stole her daughter’s backpack sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The woman reported her daughter had come home and parked the Jeep in the driveway, located on the 3000 block of Mountain Laurel Court around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. She left her black North Face backpack, which contained school books and a calculator, in the car. The resident was unsure if the vehicle was locked, the report said.
• An Oakland Township man reported that his vehicle and his daughter’s vehicle, both of which had been parked in the driveway of their house on the 3000 block of South Century Oak Circle on Tuesday night, were broken into. According to the report, sometime between Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning a laptop computer and briefcase were stolen from the man’s Cadillac, while a portable DVD player and a wallet with $300 in cash along with credit cards and more had been stolen from his daughter’s vehicle. Both of the vehicles were reported to be unlocked and no damage was observed to either vehicle, the report stated.
• An Oakland Township woman contacted the Oakland Township Substation on Tuesday to report her 2004 silver Nissan Quest had been broken into. According to the report, the woman's car was parked in the Paint Creek Trail parking area at the corner of Gallagher and Orion roads. The woman noted she had parked her vehicle in the parking lot at 7:15 a.m., returning a half hour later to find that her front passenger side window had been shattered, the report said. According to the report, a rock was found on the front floorboard of her car. Her Coach purse, which contained a Coach wallet, a $1,500 pair of earrings, credit cards, driver's license and more, were stolen, said the report.
• Another incident on the 3000 block of Mountain Laurel Boulevard was reported Saturday by an Oakland Township resident. He noted that between Friday night and Saturday morning his 19-year-old daughter's car had been searched and her phone charging cord and a retail card had been stolen, a report said.

Damage to vehicles reported

• On Tuesday an Oakland Township resident reported that his 2002 tan Chevy Venture, which was parked in his driveway on the 1000 block of Rochawies Drive, was damaged sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning. Though nothing was reported stolen, the resident showed the deputy that someone had attempted to pry open the driver’s door, the report stated, and the door no longer shuts properly. The deputy noted that there were numerous pry marks on the door.
• On Sunday a Utica woman reported that foul language was scratched into her 2011 blue Buick Regal while she was in Oakland Township. Her car was parked in a driveway on the 4000 block of Calumet, according to the report. Along with an inappropriate phrase scratched into the hood of the car, deep scratches were also found on the driver’s side headlight, the report said. The homeowner also reported some of his landscape lights had been torn out of the ground.
