Police Blotter: Stolen Car, Shoplifting, Damaged Property Reported

The following information was supplied by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Substation in Orion Township.

Highlights from reports from the past week:

Car stolen from Orion Township driveway

On Tuesday morning a black 2008 Saturn Vue was reported stolen from a home located at the 800 block of Buckhorn in Orion Township.

According to the report, the car was parked at the home on Buckhorn. The car belongs to a couple from Indiana who were in town visiting their parents. According to the report, one set of keys had been left in a cup holder in the front seat of the unlocked vehicle. The report noted that the vehicle was last seen at midnight and discovered missing around 3:15 a.m.

The Vue had a built-in DVD player and GPS system, a wallet was in the vehicle with various credit cards and forms of identification and a handheld Garmin GPS was also in the vehicle, the report stated.

Woman steals from Kohl's, assaults employee

On Friday the Orion Township Substation received a report that an assault and retail fraud had just occurred at . Deputies tried to track down the responsible woman, who fled in a black Neon, but were unable to locate her, according to the report.

The loss prevention officer at Kohl's told police that the woman, who looked to be in her mid-30s, had come into the store with a small child in a stroller. The agent watched as the woman selected several children’s clothing items and took them into the fitting room. When the woman came out of the fitting room, according to the report, she was not carrying the items and they were not left in the fitting room.

The loss prevention agent approached the woman after she left the store and the woman allegedly cursed at the agent and pushed her out of the way as the agent followed her to the vehicle, the report stated. The woman climbed into her car after placing the child in the back seat and backed out of the parking lot. Then, according to the report, the woman drove directly at the agent, who had to move quickly to avoid behind hit.

After that the woman drove to Petco, picked up another woman and a small child and drove off onto northbound Interstate 75, according to the report.

Trampoline damaged

An Orion Township resident reported his Jump King trampoline damaged on Saturday morning, according to a substation report.

The black trampoline in the backyard of the resident's house on the 400 block of Hiram Street had been cut in a number of places along the fabric and was no longer usable. The man noticed the damage around 7 a.m. Saturday, and said it had been fine as of 11:30 p.m. Friday, the report stated.

There were no suspects.

Library sign damaged with foul language

An employee contacted the Orion Township substation Friday after discovering one of the library’s wooden signs was damaged, according to a report.

The damaged sign, located on Newman Road near the Polly Ann Trail, had part of the wood gouged out and inappropriate language was scratched into the top of the sign, the report stated.

Equipment stolen from boat

On April 11 a 48-year-old Lake Orion man reported the tarp on his boat that is tied to the dock on the 400 block of Heights Road had been cut open and many items stolen, according to a report.

The man told police that the last time he saw all of the items in normal condition was April 1. A tackle bag, lures, hooks, GPS, CD player, fishing rods and more were stolen, worth a total of more than $1,600, along with ruining the pontoon boat’s slipcover, the report said.

There were no suspects.
