Board of Trustees Considers Block Grant Applicants, Approves Sheriff's Substation Carport

Neighborhood House, Haven both seeking portion of block grant.

The Oakland Township Board of Trustees approved a carport for the Tuesday during the board's meeting at .

On the agenda but not voted upon, but brought up as a public hearing, was the 2012 Community Development Block Grant. Every year the township receives the grant to disperse. This year, Trustee Marc Edwards noted that they would only be able to supply general moneys to one cause due to provisions of the grant, unless there were capital or vehicle investments needed. Both Rochester Area Neighborhood House and Haven of Pontiac have received portions of the grant in the past, and both had representatives seeking the same disbursements for the 2012 program year.

A minimum of $2,500 will be given to the nonprofit entity, Edwards said, based on the administrative recommendation by the board at a future meeting. The goal of Tuesday’s meeting was to hear the needs of applicants, Haven and the Rochester Area Neighborhood House, to make an informed decision.

Other meeting highlights include:

  • A resolution to finalize the special assessment and affirm the special assessment roll for the Oakland Township property owners to be assessed for the road maintenance for Kniard and Lakeview roads was approved.
  • The board approved the Oakland County’s 2012 Law Enforcement Services Agreement.
  • An applicant requested that there be a minor Planned Unit Development amendment for Kingsridge II, so that Sovereign Drive can be created into a cul-de-sac instead of a through road. The board voted in favor of the request.
  • Oakland Township Substation Commander Sergeant Anthony Spencer came before the board with a request that a carport shelter be built outside of the substation in the parking lot. He explained, in addition to other reasons, that reaction times would improve for his staff because in the winter their vehicles would already be snow-free. The board approved this item, with the amendment that water runoff, drainage and adequate lighting be looked into while creating the carport.
