Feature Photo: Police Chief Joins Snyder for Signing of Spice Ban

Gov. Rick Snyder signed a package of bills banning the sale of synthetic marijuana Tuesday afternoon.

Four bills were signed into law that ban K2, Spice and other designer drugs including "bath salts" from being sold at stores in Michigan. It will also make it illegal for anyone to carry the substances. The new laws will go into effect July 1.

Under one of the bills, which went into effect immediately, the director of the Michigan Department of Community Health will also be able to ban any substance considered to be an immediate threat to public health after consulting with the Michigan Board of Pharmacy.

Jerry Narsh, who has of the community about the dangers associated with the substance, joined Snyder in Lansing for the historic signing.

at an Orion Township Board of Trustees meeting on Monday night to ban the sale and use of the drugs on a local level and the ordinance became effective immediately.
