It's Spring Musical Season on Area High School Stages

Catch Adams High School's 'Once Upon a Mattress' and Lake Orion High School's 'Footloose' this weekend.

Here's a look at four musical productions coming to a high school stage near you this spring.

Once Upon a Mattress

  • School:
  • Dates: 7 p.m. Friday, April 20 and 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 21
  • Cost: Evening performances: $10 students and seniors 60 and over, $12 adults; Matinee: $8 students and seniors, $10 adults.
  • Tickets: On sale at the high school during school hours or at www.adamstheatre.com under "tickets."
  • What's it all about? If you thought you knew the story of 'The Princess and The Pea', you may be in for a walloping surprise. In fact, it wasn't the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night.

Footloose

  • School:
  • Dates: 7:30 p.m. April 19-21
  • Cost: $12 for adults; $8 for students and seniors.
  • Tickets: Box office open daily from 3-3:30 p.m., and one hour before curtain.
  • What's it all about? The Lake Orion High School Thespian Troupe 2898 will be hitting the stage with about 85 students this week who have been working on the production since January. Students will be dancing to a variety of beats as the lead character fights for the right to dance in a town that forbids it. Attendees are likely to leave the auditorium with a spring in their step after watching this classic musical performance.

Murders of 1940

  • School:
  • Dates: 7 p.m. April 26; 8 p.m. April 27; 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. April 28.
  • Cost: $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. All matinee seats are $5.
  • What's it about?: Murder and mayhem ensue when a group of theatre professionals are snowbound in a country estate. Throw in a portion of hidden passageways, a few secret identities, an eccentric millionairess, and Nazi spies and you have an evening of laughter and intrigue.

The Pajama Game

  • School:
  • Dates: 7 p.m. April 27 and 28; May 4 and 5
  • Cost: $10 for students and $12 for adults
  • Tickets: Purchase them online here.
  • What's it about? The show takes place in — you guessed it — a pajama factory. The workers want a raise, and the management isn't exactly listening.
