More Exciting Changes Happening at the Orion Township Public Library

Youth Area Renovations are Starting at the Orion Township Public Library

Thank you to our wonderful Orion community for your patience with us as we completed our lobby renovations in October and November. We have received great feedback about the results, and we appreciate the support of the community. We hope that you will come and visit us, try our new self-service options if you’d like, browse our enlarged Friends ongoing book sale, and enjoy the renovated space.

As you may recall, the lobby was phase one of our renovation project. We are now beginning phase two, which is our youth area. We will be doing a similar project in our youth space, including stripping the wallpaper and painting, replacing the carpeting, and installing new furniture. We will also be rearranging the materials in our youth space to make it easier for everyone to use.

We will be creating three zones in our youth space. First we will have an expanded early literacy area for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers. This is part of our library being a Family Place Library. Look forward to more educational play space as well as all our early literacy materials in one area. Second, we will have an area for our older children, ages 6-12. This will be a space for these children to gather and use the library, do homework, listen to music, read magazines, use iPads and computers, and checkout materials. Finally, we will have a popular library area with our new books and audio visual materials, including DVDs, for our young patrons.

We will begin shifting materials around to make space for the contractors to begin their work at the end of January. Some materials will be moved into the meeting room, and others will be moved around within the youth space. We will work on the youth area in two phases, and we will try to continue to provide access to materials and services as much as possible during this renovation period. We expect that the contractors work should be completed by early March, at which time we will be installing the new furniture.

We ask for your continued patience with us, especially from our young patrons and their caregivers. We know how much you use our library, and we hope you know how hard we are working to improve it for you. If you have any questions about the building renovations, please contact Library Director, Karen Knox, at 248-693-3000 x305.
